Danceworks Presents

3/12/2010 - 3/13/2010

Facing East Dance & Music, under the Artistic Direction of dancer/choreographer Sue Li Jue, is proud to present a repeated performance of Benchmark10 as a celebration of 10 years of dancemaking. This season includes a fantastic array of diverse works, including two new works, gThe Effort of Nowh with a new original score by composer/musician Joe Venegoni, and gHalf the Skyh, an uplifting peek into the potential for strength and joy for adopted Chinese girls.

In addition to these new works, the program is filled out with audience and company favorites from the past full length, multimedia productions: Held So Close: remembering the poets of Angel Island, The Nature of Nature, and the original hit, Rice Women.

Sue Li Juefs choreography has been described as garrestingh, gseamlessh, gpoignanth and gtongue-in-cheekh, with an Asian American and decidedly female point of view.

There are so few Asian American contemporary dance companies still in existence in the Bay Area that Facing East Dance & Music stands out as a unique and an important voice to be experienced.
